What is Venetian Plaster Made Of?
Traditional Venetian plaster is made from lime, marble dust, and natural pigments. The material is breathable, durable, and develops a rich patina over time. The composition allows us to create a stone-like appearance, whether polished to a smooth, glossy finish or left more matte and rustic.
How is Venetian Plaster Different from Regular Paint?
Venetian plaster adds depth, movement, and texture to walls unlike flat, one-dimensional paint. Paint simply sits on the surface, while Venetian plaster becomes part of the wall, creating a more luxurious and dynamic effect.
Additionally, Venetian plaster:
✔ Reflects natural light beautifully
✔ Has no VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), making it eco-friendly
✔ Is more durable than paint and resists mold & mildew
✔ Can mimic anything from polished marble to natural stone
.
How do I clean a polished plaster surface?
- Dust Regularly: Dust the walls with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. This helps maintain the wall’s smooth appearance without scratching the surface.
- Gentle Cleaning: If the walls get dirty, clean them with a damp cotton cloth soaked in mild soapy water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the finish.
- Stain Removal: Use a non-abrasive cleaning wipe without bleach for stubborn stains. Rub the affected area in soft, circular motions to lift the stain.
Is Venetian Plaster Expensive?
While Venetian plaster has a higher upfront cost than paint, it’s actually a cost-effective alternative to tile, especially for bathrooms, kitchens, and feature walls.
Since Venetian plaster is applied directly to walls, there’s no need for costly demolition, backer boards, or tile-setting materials.
Venetian plaster:
✔ Requires less maintenance (no grout lines to clean!)
✔ Doesn’t need replacement like chipped or outdated tile
✔ Provides a seamless, high-end look for a fraction of the cost
